Welcome, Welcome!!
This blog has been a long time coming. I've thought about returning to blogging for quite some time, but kept dragging my feet because I just wasn't sure if it was the right thing for me to do. But now I feel like I am ready to do so after so many years. If you know me at all, you will understand why I chose my blog address. My favorite movie is The Wizard of Oz, we have lived in Kansas for the past three years, and I always wanted to play The Wicked Witch in some form, plus I've seen Wicked on Broadway. I really wanted a way to tie in our lives in Kansas with our upcoming move to Germany. Props to my husband for picking the name!
A bit of a back story on my family...I am a widowed mother of four children, and I got remarried to a wonderful man in 2012, three years after my first husband passed away. My first husband Barry and I lived in Wiesbaden, Germany, where we were married in 1999. He got out of the Army right before 9/11, and for the past 16 years, I have wanted to go back so bad I can taste it. I decided after he passed away that I would try to take my kids on a trip to Germany after the older two graduate, but luckily for us, I married an Army man again. When my husband Andrew and I started dating, I made it explicitly clear that I wanted to go back to Germany! It took a long time, but in January 2015, we got word that he was pending orders to go to Vilseck, Germany. I do believe I cried tears of joy at that news. Andrew was deployed to Kuwait at the time, so when I got the email from him, I was jumping up and down and had tears coming out of my eyes. I am so excited to be back there, and to show the kids where their biological dad and I were married and started our family. And I can't wait to explore Europe with my husband Andrew and our kids!
This blog is primarily for family and friends to keep up with our adventures overseas! We plan to travel as much as we can, as I did not get that chance the first time. I don't plan on missing out during our years in Germany. The kids are also at a great age where they will actually remember our time overseas.
We leave Fort Riley, KS in less than month! We have waited 17 months for this PCS to happen, and now we are at the final stages. Next week we have our UAB shipment going out (Unaccompanied Baggage), and two weeks after that, our HHG (household goods) will be shipped out. For as long as we have waited, the time has flown by. The kids are wishy washy in how they feel about leaving, but when we left Washington State to move to Kansas, they were the same way. Some days we are happy, some days we are emotional about leaving here, but we are all excited for the new adventures we have waiting for us in Germany.
Come join us on the biggest adventure we have had so far! And don't forget, everyone is welcome to visit us!
